About formal & business footwear
Oxfords have closed lacing (the quarters sit under the vamp); derbies have open lacing. Monk straps replace laces with buckles.
Cemented constructions keep weight and cost down; Blake and Goodyear-welted constructions can be resoled. Which constructions are offered is confirmed per project.
For comfort-led shoes for staff and uniform programmes, see Office & Professional Footwear.

Development
Sizing, sampling, MOQ and quality
Sizing
- Width fittings are common in formal footwear and are agreed on the last
- EU/UK sizing; US conversion on request
Sampling
- Proto sample to confirm design, pattern and construction
- Fit sample on the agreed last, checked on wearers in the core size
- Size set across the full size run to confirm grading
- Pre-production sample approved as the sealed bulk standard
MOQ
- Leather finish and last development are the main MOQ drivers
- Confirmed in the quotation
Quality checkpoints
- Incoming material check: colour, thickness, grain or weave defects
- Cutting accuracy and component matching per pair
- Stitch density, seam alignment and thread tension on closed uppers
- Lasting: toe and heel shape, symmetry, no wrinkles at the vamp
- Sole bond: visual check of the bond line and peel checks on samples
- Final inspection: pairing, size marking, cleanliness and packaging
- Finish consistency (polish, burnish) between pairs
- Edge finishing and welt stitching where applicable
The full development route, from design submission to dispatch, is explained on the manufacturing page.
