Category overview

About casual & lifestyle footwear

The category covers smart-casual lace-ups and loafers, rubber-soled everyday shoes, minimalist closed-toe designs and barefoot-style shoes. What they share is a focus on comfort and material quality rather than technical performance.

Minimalist and barefoot-style shoes need particular care: a wide toe box, a flat (zero-drop) profile and a thin, flexible sole change how the last is shaped and how the sole is attached. These are developed only where the construction can be proven on samples.

Most development time goes into the last and the leather. We agree both before the first proto sample so that comments on later samples focus on details, not fundamentals.

Intended buyers

  • European fashion and lifestyle brands building core collections
  • Private-label brands adding a smart-casual line
  • Retailers sourcing own-brand casual footwear
  • Comfort and minimalist-footwear brands

Development

Sizing, sampling, MOQ and quality

Sizing

  • EU sizing is the default; UK and US conversions are agreed per order
  • Width fittings and toe-box volume are set on the last, which matters most for minimalist and barefoot-style designs
  • Grading rules are confirmed on the size set before bulk

Sampling

  • Proto sample to confirm design, pattern and construction
  • Fit sample on the agreed last, checked on wearers in the core size
  • Size set across the full size run to confirm grading
  • Pre-production sample approved as the sealed bulk standard

MOQ

  • MOQ depends on the sole (stock unit or custom mould), leather minimums and the number of colourways
  • Stock soles and stocked leathers keep minimums lower; custom moulds and dyed-to-order leather raise them
  • Your MOQ is confirmed in the quotation, never assumed

Quality checkpoints

  • Incoming material check: colour, thickness, grain or weave defects
  • Cutting accuracy and component matching per pair
  • Stitch density, seam alignment and thread tension on closed uppers
  • Lasting: toe and heel shape, symmetry, no wrinkles at the vamp
  • Sole bond: visual check of the bond line and peel checks on samples
  • Final inspection: pairing, size marking, cleanliness and packaging
  • Flexibility check on thin-sole designs before bulk approval

The full development route, from design submission to dispatch, is explained on the manufacturing page.

FAQ

Casual & Lifestyle questions

Can you produce barefoot-style shoes?

Barefoot-style designs (zero drop, wide toe box, thin flexible sole) are developed where the construction can be proven on samples. We confirm feasibility for your specific design during development rather than promising it upfront.

Do you work with suede and nubuck?

Yes. Leather type, grade and finish are agreed per project and approved on swatches and samples before bulk.

Can you match a reference shoe's fit?

A reference shoe can guide the last selection. Fit is then confirmed on a fit sample and a size set.
